Chemistry in Year 9
Year 9 chemistry at QIS covers some of my favorite aspects of chemistry and the most visible uses of chemistry around us. The general theme for Chemistry in year 9 at QIS is looking at the Earth's resources, what they are, how they are made and how we use them. We do this in the first half term by studying metals and in the second half term we look at the Earth itself, what it is made of and how we harness these resources. There are two key skills that we will be developing in year 9. The first that we come back to repeatedly throughout both units is being able to write balanced word and symbol equations, and representing reactants and products in a chemical reaction with particle diagrams. The second is being able to write thorough investigations, throughout the course we will have several opportunities to develop our practical writing skills to prepare us for practical investigations in the iGCSE. Here at QIS we hope you or your son/daughter enjoys studying chemistry in year 9 and this will lead to them being fully prepared for chemistry at iGCSE in years 10 and 11. Mr Morton |
